We had the B uick version growing up. So many details I remember
I remember that over- chrome turn signal that “KA Chunked!” like no other. I remember the smell and feel of the cheap vinyl and carpet. I remember the rear speaker grills that were always falling apart.
I remember us all jumping in the back in the snow so we could make it up the hill.
It was my brothers first car, it caught fire in the school parking lot. it was an engine fire that was put out, then the hoses and wires were replaced and it ran so much better. My dad lent it to a neighbor that was down on his luck for a few years and his kid crashed it before returning it. nothing bad, but the rear panel was mangled.
When we got it back we decided to go all in and painting polka dots on it and built a sod box for the roof rack and we actually grew sod up there.
It was the first car I drove when my brother let me have the controls in the parking lot when I was 12.
I remember the hard earned lesson of how hot interior lights were if they were left on and to never leave the door open.
it was a colossal
piece of garbage then and now. Do I miss it? NO! collectable?
NO! not as stock at least.

When daily and monthly views go down , Doug pulls out an Ol’ Reliable.
He released another internet-car-guy-bait video, the Previa review, in March 2018, during this flat spot for his channel.

this is a car guy video? I mean I guess it got my view but its a vehicle I would never have regretted ever having known.

It’s a brown V8 body-on-frame rear wheel drive wagon. It’s just missing a manual transmission and diesel engine.

We had one of these, and an older ‘73 before it, which was my first car. I seem to have fonder memories of both than you do. But then, both reliably took us on many long road trips.

Damn. That is identical to my mother’s Custom Cruiser. It brings back so many memories. My mom’s particular car had a tenuous tie-in with celebrity. The previous owner of the vehicle was Kate Jackson’s mom. (Kate Jackson was one of TV’s original Charlie’s Angels).

“It is an excellent reminder of family transportation from 35 years ago.”
And now I feel super old. Fuck you too, Doug.

W e had a 1979 Buick growing up. It was a tank. Every time we would go over the slightest bump, the trailer hitch would scrape.

I wish we had one of those when I was a kid. A family of 6 just should not be stuffed in to a standard cab pickup. That probably explains my antipathy toward pickups to this day .

according to some sources it was 5400 lbs, which given the 6005 lb gvwr on the door sticker in this video meant it was pretty much always overloaded

Only 605 lbs remaining for passengers/cargo? That doesn’t sound right. Hilarious if true though.

It really bothers me that he doesn’t fold down the last flap to cover the rear foot-
well. I think he didn’t realize it was capable of doing that, but I think it’s pretty obvious. I’ve always dreamed of doing a full resto-mod on one of these full size wagons.
